Archives for January 2016

December was another busy month for rallies with the main focus being the Christmas rally on Saturday 19 December.

All those attending were given three dressage tests to choose from.  Each group had a 30-minute warm up session, focusing on movements that came up in the tests.  With an assortment of very non-dressage attire for riders and horses, it was a very colourful spectacle to judge on a rather dull winter’s day.

Group 1 Xmas rally Dec 15 v1Jane and Thistle were the winners in the first group with an impressive 72% riding Prelim 18.  Aislin and Tom were the clear winner in the second group achieving 78%.

Group 2 Xmas rally Dec 15The final group had all chosen to ride Novice 28 and they all did extremely strong competitive tests. It was a close call when the scores were added up and it was Daisy and her wonder pony Easy who just pipped first place.

Group 3 Xmas rally Dec 15Dates for the rallies in January and February have now been confirmed and can be found on the rallies webpage.

One sad note in December was the loss of Deborah and Martin Toogood’s horse, Cregwarrior (Jasper) at the age of 22.  I was fortunate to be involved with Jasper’s training and competed him in dressage.  Jasper may not have been the most natural athlete but whatever he lacked in ability, he made up for it with his character, heart and determination.  Jasper represented Ireland on many senior teams and in 2007 he jumped clear at Badminton CCI****.  It was very proud moment for horse, rider, owners and me as the trainer.  It was through Jasper that I first met the Toogoods and over a decade later I still coach their horses and value their friendship.

There are still a few places left on the 3-day eventing course in February that I am running with AM Dressage.
