Summer 2017

It’s been a busy and successful summer season both at home and competing.

Competitions

Melody has continued to progress with her first intermediate at Rockingham back in May.

Xavier showed his class when finishing 9th in the advanced at Little Downham, Pearl also did extremely well too in the advanced and it was only rider error that prevented her winning her section.

Slight change of focus and another enjoyable day at Almondsbury Show in early July.  The dressage and showing classes were well supported.  The judges certainly had their work cut out for the showing classes as we had over 60 entries!

Xavier and Hector at Hartpury

Trips to Dauntsey and Aston le Walls with Melody and Pearl followed.  Late July and we were up to Burgham for Xavier and Hector’s first 3* which ended in disappointment as Xavier slipped on the flat on the cross country.   Luckily neither was hurt and focus then turned towards Hartpury where the duo successfully completed the CIC***.  So proud of them both.

Melody and Rachel at Osberton

Heading towards the end of our season and Melody set up her trip to Osberton CC1* with a successful 3rd place at Sapey Horse Trials.  Osberton proved to be enjoyable and Melody and Rachel completed so rounded off the season on a high note.

All three Leighlands are now on a well-deserved holiday.

Summer rallies/training

Two-day clinic

Two-day clinic

Rallies and training continued throughout the summer which included a two-day course eventing clinic with myself and Mike Jackson.  In addition to my rallies, Mike also did a couple of jump clinics and Emma organised the ‘little ponies’ clinics.

The two-day course covered flat work and jumping plus talks on BE and FEI which proved an eye-opener for some people.  Myself and Mike had a good time teaching everyone and the food and drink seemed to go down well too.

Dates have now been set for the 2017 autumn and winter rallies.

If all the above wasn’t enough, Robin and I have been managing the development of Moor Farm and in early September, Emma moved into Damson Barn.  Works are still ongoing but it’s exciting to see our plans become reality.
